A brace of them in fact:
The Maxi seems original and unrestored - faded paint, some rust. How it’s survived this long I’ve no idea.

I actually remember those MG F’s being a pretty common sight in England back around 2004. Not surprised that they have mostly disappeared, though.

Are they that bad?

I don’t think they are that bad. The problem is that a lot of MG/Rover products from that era were garbage and the reputation drove F resale values down. The bankruptcy certainly didn’t help values either. As far as I can tell a lot of them got picked up by people who wanted a cheap fun convertible car but didn’t really have any interest in paying to maintain a mid-engine car and ran them into the ground.

Oooh, a Chrysler Alpine in the background!
And an Escort 1.3L from an era when it was important so show the exact spec of the car you had so that owners of say a 1.6GL could see what a cheapskate you were.

Plenty of now-extinct models to be seen:

Exactly this, although MG did seem to keep selling the (T)F for a while, even after the Chinese takeover. Sales were dead by then though.
But either way, I never really thought of it as ‘a thing rarely seen’ until now.
